RESOURCES
General
- Outlands Heralds website: http://outlandsheralds.org/ - Links to lots of stuff of interest specifically to Outlanders, as well as this page of links for future reference
- SCA College of Arms website: http://heraldry.sca.org/ - a lot of articles about a lot of things
- Standards for Evaluation: http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html - this pretty much qualifies for check here before you do anything else. Also, look through the appendices – there's a lot of really helpful stuff in there!
- Admin Handbook: http://heraldry.sca.org/admin.html - the rules tell you what you can and can't do, this tells you how to do it
- Heraldry and onomastics books online: http://slumberland.org/sca/articles/onlineheraldicbooklinks.html - A lot of the books from Appendix H of the Admin handbook online and searchable – what more could you ask for?
- Morsulus website: http://www.morsulus.org/ - this is a great site to look up precedents about name structures and armory designs
- OSCAR: http://oscar.sca.org/ - not only can you check the status and comments on your submissions, but you can use the search function to take a look at armory or documentation for items you're trying to submit. Why try and re-invent the wheel?
- SCA Ordinary and Armorial: http://oanda.sca.org/ - if you're going to conflict check, you're going to do it here
- Modar University: http://www.modaruniversity.org/ - great general heraldic and SCA articles and resources
Names
- SCA College of Arms Name Articles: http://heraldry.sca.org/names.html - sorted by region, no photocopies necessary – one of the best places to start!
- Academy of Saint Gabriel: http://www.s-gabriel.org/ - last updated in 2007, it's still worth checking out. You have to read the articles thoroughly; sometimes they say that they can't find any justification for a name.
- Admin Handbook Appendix F: http://heraldry.sca.org/admin.html#APPENDIXF – if you have these books in your collection, donate them to the public library; these items are no longer acceptable for documentation purposes.
- Admin Handbook Appendix H: http://heraldry.sca.org/admin.html#APPENDIXH – this is a great place to look for the standard books for different types of names. Also, makes documentation easier (shorthand author and title, plus no copies required!)
Armory
- SCA Ordinary and Armorial: http://oanda.sca.org/ - in addition to conflict checking, you can look to see when something was registered last. If it's recent, you can look it up in OSCAR!
- Categories and descriptions for complex searches: http://oanda.sca.org/my.cat - (plaintext file) for use with a complex search
- Pennsic Traceable Art: http://heraldicart.org/ - no guarantee of registerability, but overall not a bad set of free heraldic clipart
- More Heraldic clipart: http://www.heraldicclipart.com/ - even fewer guarantees with this one
